Encapsulating nearly the entire island by the same name, Cumberland Island National Seashore presents a massive natural preserve, filled with nearly untouched wilderness but offering abundant recreational activities for visitors. Explore the island by hiking along miles of trails or circling the land by boat. Bird watching, beach combing, swimming, camping and fishing are all popular activities, and there are miles of isolated shoreline at which one can just get away from it all. Getting to the island takes a bit of forward planning as there is no road access. The ferry from Saint Marys requires advance reservations and will not transport items like bicycles or kayaks. There are charter options available as well, if there are many things you need to bring to the park, and it's also possible to get there by private boat.
Visitor center open daily 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Ferry schedule varies and requires reservation, check website for details.
Entry fee: Adults $4; Children 15 and under are free. Ferry ride: Adults $17; Seniors (65+) $15; Children 12 and under $12.
